 Welcome to this blog!

This blog is created for those who are learning English with me at the ILM in Badajoz, or for any other person who may want to follow learning English with Sarai!

Here you will find information on what is being carried out in class, as well as extra exercises, curiosities, interesting links, etc.

I hope you find it helpful, enjoyable and that it helps you to have plenty of oportunity to practice your English, so that you feel more confident and give a big jump in your knowledge of the English language.

I would ask you some help in the creation and development of this blog with your own opinion, commentaries and any kind of contribution.

Enjoy it!

Are you ready for your new year course?? One week to go!
Don't feel nervous, but be impatient! This year we are going to do lots of things, to learn a lot, to share a lot, to enjoy... Never give up!                                                    If sometime on your way to the Enlish Learning you feel like surrendering... keep going... have a thought of the reason that made you want to start learning English: a better job, for your studies, to move around the world, to make new friends, to help your children, for pleasure... Keep whatever the reason you chose in mind whenever you think that's difficult, I can't, I don't have time, I don't feel like going to class...! Never give up! It's your money and your valuable time what you are investing, don't waste it!
Good luck and positive thinking!

13- September- 2013

We are about to start the new school year!
I hope the summer has charged your batteries to start...

            WELCOME

We all are wondering how to start, how this course will go... Will I be able to manage the course? My own experience tells me the startings are quite difficult... but with some tips it would go perfectly well!

  • First thing we can do is to start listening to songs and trying to understand them. This will help you to introduce yourself to the language in a more relaxed way!
  • Try to read some news in English every day. If you go to the BBC for instance, you will find many articles to read. Try to check how much do you understand!
  • Where are my old books...??? probably you haven't had contact with your old books since May! It's time to welcome them back. Most of the books have a revision section. Try to complete it!
  • Finally, if you have enough time, look for you notebook and revise...
All this tips will help you to start the new course much better, ready to improve your English! And above all... start thinking in English and let English surrounding your life enter in it!

                                                  It's time to start working!!!

Here you have the first SONGS...! First with lyrics and translations + vocabulary

Happy Easterrr.......zzzzzzzzzzz!!

Relaxing holidaysss...... for you all!!

There is no reward without effort!
Once we have reached this point you must start thinking seriously in the exam,
every single minute you devote to your English will count.
Remember a language is really difficult to learn just through a book... listen to the radio, to songs, watch short chapters of whatever cartoon, serie, etc. Read anything you have access to. Think in English what you have to do today, while you are driving to your job, to the school, while having a shower...
If you want, you can!
Please, devote some time to your English every day. There is no other possible way to learn the language.
You have houndred of resources at hand, imagine 25 years ago when people had to spent long hours in the library to have access to very limited information and still they studied and learnt languages.
How can you say you can't? how can you say you don't have time?
I usually say I don't have time to study Portuguese, but in fact I do have at least 10 or 20 minutes to read, listen or just revise some exercises everyday.
Try to do your best, don't be pessimistic.. I can't, I won't pass...! No time to regret. STUDY!
Be honest to yourselves:
How many time have you devoted to improve you writing skill? How many of you have revised my notes on writing mistakes? how many of you have spent more than 30 minutes doing the last writing task? I promise I have spent hours and hours preparing your list of writing mistakes, correcting the exercises, planning how to help you... now it's your turn! don't you think so?
And... if that is about the writing... what about the listening? Can you imagine how many time have I spent preparing your listening CDs? Are you concious that sometimes I am making a greater effort for your benefit than yourselves?
Dear friends,
you all know how busy I am, and I still have time to prepare extra help for you.
Don't tell me you don't have time to help yourselves!
Now, you still have time, don't waste it crying like little babies, READ, LISTEN, WRITE... and.. ok, leave the SPEAKING for the class.
In June, you'll have time to complain, cry, regret ... and hopefully SMILE and feel rewarded for your effort.
Good luck and keep on working!

We are just about to become one more member in the team... Jevan and wife are expecting their baby girl to come just in the next hours! Today it's a great, happy, amazing day!

Congratulations on your new baby!

Expression of the day:

Does anyone know what the meaning of this idiom is?

"To have ants in your pants"

If you have ants in your pants, you are not able to sit still because you are excited or worried about something.

Example: The kids found it difficult to sit still and listen to their teacher reading The Stinky Cheese Man: And Other Fairly Stupid Tales again. They had ants in their pants.
